Oct 2011 : A success story for Adesoft with RWCS expertise

DCAE  Cosford :
A Throughput Management Technology Success Story

Over the last 6 months RWCS have been engaged and retained by ADESOFT, a small but dedicated French technology provider in training logistics management.  With our deep involvement in the UK MOD DITM contract procurement over the last 3 years, RWCS has been well placed in providing guidance and logistics in  supporting Adesoft’s Defence Client  base .

To that end we have been busy detailing out how Adesoft technology has been delivering significant benefit and value for DCAE Cosford over the last 11 years.

Critical use cases and case studies have been created which have focussed on :-

  • How and why DCAE Cosford have invested scheduling management technology,
  • The expected (or unexpected) benefits and what they meant for DCAE Cosford
  • What has worked and what hasn’t worked in using Adesoft
  • The return on investment
  • Lessons learned and strategic advice for the future
  • Potential plans for future expansion, enhancement and development

The value of this new CASE publishing activity and benefits measurement output has been significant as you can see from the snapshot  below.  Additional work and expansion of the programme is continuing.

“ The use of ADESOFT as a scheduling solution has delivered core benefits at RAF Cosford.”
” Forecasting, optimisation and continual review of resources to maximise usage, minimise wastage and resolve conflicts in programming. DCAE Schedulers require the ability to manage the training schedules & resources for RAF Cosford for 1, 2 – 3 year operational delivery cycles .Successful resource management and scheduling has been achieved at Cosford by looking at historical capacity planning actions via project performance reports / dashboards which have been actively exploited to improve demand forecasting and identify new / efficient scheduling operations.Over time , Scheduling practice, using AdeSOFT over time has reformed / streamlined the process of creating and delivering schedules by using features developed to enhance productivity, thus taking less time to create / modify training schedules. For the current year, AdeSOFT scheduling modelling has enabled calculation at Aeronautical Training Wing at DCAE to assess and justify the staffing reduction of 72 posts within the wing representing an approximate 14% adjustment to the level of training posts. This schedule modelling had enabled & directly led to a financial capitation saving of between £36K and £48 K per post depending on split of rank/civilian posts affected.Currently, Cosford are directly using AdeSOFT tooling and applications to enable and process additional assessment for ” posts drawdown”, to establish the effect of a further staff reduction of between 17 – 31 posts by determining the smallest proportion of courses cancellations that would be required across the wing.In reducing the amount of time it takes to create resource schedules and training timetables, Training Directors and scheduling managers at DCAE & DCCIS have been able to deliver and provide lean / efficient use of resources with all course programmes being fully utilised.

In addition to financial value benefits, there is a continual need to maximise the efficiency of resource usage and flow. This achieved by analysing how resources are used on differing course styles and ‘meshing’ the patterns of use to allow several different courses to utilise the same resource.
